What is Windows Movie Maker?

Windows Movie Maker is a basic video editing software inculcated in Microsoft Windows. With this software, you can create, edit, and share your own personal home movies. Also, you create movies with drag-and-drop commands, and you can edit your footage so you highlight only the best scenes. In addition, you can share your movie via the Web, e-mail, or CD; you can also save your movie back to the video tape in your camera to play back on a TV or on the camera itself.

This image illustrates how simple it is to consolidate your videos with options from THE TASK PANE; where various options are there for you to begin movie editing. Secondly, the THE COLLECTION PANE; for you to place your video clips, music, and photos for usage. Thirdly, THE TIME LINE; where you can drag and drop items from your collections pane, and produce your movie. Finally, THE PLAYER WINDOW; for you to view your ultimate movie creation.

The Assignment

For that reason, this particular entry gave us the opportunity to explore an actual hands-on approach using Windows Movie Maker. To grasp this idea, we were tasked by our lecturer to go ahead and make our own personal videos of any type of genre. Indeed, we were all thrown back because of the limited amount of time we had on other assignments, however, I personally went ahead and tried my best to replicate a video which has been done before. Of course, changing the context of the movie to suit myself was inevitable.

Inspiration

My inspiration of creating a personal video came in the influence of friends and online videos, specifically, YOUTUBE. To illustrate this proposition, after viewing these videos, the realization of making personal home videos was suddenly triggered. Certainly, videos need not be too dramatic, over board, and stressful to do. On the contrary, this learning experience has enabled myself and others to experience a whole new way of creating unique videos of our own self creations with the help of Microsoft Windows Movie Maker.

This video clip below was the source of my inspiration to make a video.

Ultimately, this video clearly demonstrates how such soft wares enables a user to replicate scenes over and over again with the help of background music. Even so, the end result of the video looks flawlessly well done because the
composition of the background music, as such, has managed to enhance the overall attention span stirred towards the characters solely.

Let's Put Everything Together

Alas! My own personal video was made, this may seem a little odd to certain viewers, but to some, a little more improvements could be made to fine tune this video clip. Viewer discretion is advised.Nothing intellectual, all in the name of learning and having lots of fun.

Personal Video

To construct an exact replication of the actual video would be impossible unless you have the appropriate tool. Nonetheless, this video alone, took up almost a whole day just to combine the clips, position the background music, and upload onto Youtube for this blog entry.

Aim/Objective

To demonstrate how simple movie making can be and also hilariously fun to do when you look back to revisit your finished work. Furthermore, before embarking on this short movie clip, i wanted to instill and create a jovial, comedic, outcome. In other words, viewers will have a good laugh to distress from work after viewing my video. Ultimately, this video was done to remind others that if are doing something that you enjoy, the end result will always be achieved.

Simple, Easy, and Interactive

Windows Movie Maker makes it easy to create movies by helping you develop a storyboard, edit your clips, and add music.

Develop a storyboard:
  • In the Collections view, double-click each clip to preview it.
  • Select the clips you want.
  • Drag the clips to the Storyboard in the order you choose.
Edit your clips:
  • In the Timeline view, click the clip you want to edit.
  • Drag the Preview scroll bar to the point at which you wish to trim the clip.
  • On the Clip menu, click Set Start Trim Point and Set End Trim Point as appropriate.
Add music:
  • Click Import Audio or Music.
  • Find the music track you want and click Import.
  • In the Storyboard, drag the music track from the Collection view to the Audio/Music level of the Timeline.
Time Consuming

Well, most of the time would be spent on editing your clips, transition between one clip to the next, arranging your audio length to tie in with your video, and perhaps, create an introduction and an ending to your movie.

End Product

Whatever the end result is, it is your creation and your work will definitely not go unnoticed. It may not be the best, but it certainly is unique.
On the Whole

With such powerful tools, Windows Movie Maker is just the tip of the ice-berg of movie making. At present, other useful tools for video or movie editing or creating are available on various websites, for example, www.download.com, and lots more to come.

So what are you waiting for? You can be an aspiring movie director and perhaps, maybe one day, your work will be the next big screen highlight which, viewers like myself, would appreciate and pay to admire artistic and unique movies.
